Home vs Thirsk 2nd's
This Saturday Lincoln 1s played a home-based match against Thirsk 2’s. With sunny weather and confident players we started the game.
Roses 1s had great teamwork in the first half. We put the right pressure on our opponents from the whistle. We started with two goals in the first five minutes. Through this opening Roses 1s enjoyed the game, we worked hard and used this to secure our goals. With lovely one-two combinations we made a few more goals, and ended the first half 5-0 up.
After a nice break and team talk, we started the second half. We lost a bit of our focus; we know that we are on the winning side. But with a lovely strike from Claire Johnston we came back. Finally we ended this game with a 7-0 win for Roses.
Our goal scorers were Claire Johnston and Lou Scotney both with two goals, Alex Carlin, Helen Clarke and Zoe Clarke with one each. At the end we decided we all had a great teamwork, so we are all player of the match.
Overall a good performance from the ladies, we are ready for the match on Sunday.
Final score: 7-0

Away vs Hull Uni 3
This weekend Lincoln 1s travelled to Hull. The girls were confident despite missing some key players and not so confident umpires.
Roses dominated the game from the first whistle and within minutes Helen Clarkes shot on goal was stopped by a Hull University foot and we were awarded a penalty flick. Helen's flick securely hit the back board and begun our streak of goals.
Roses had an abundance chances on goal in the first half, including another flick secured by Helen Clarke, even though the goalie seemed to be the star of the Hull Uni team the first half ending at 10-0.
The second half of the game continued similarly, with Hull rarely getting into our half of the pitch and the final whistle found us with 20 goals.
Our goal scorers were Helen Clarke with six goals, Ruth Northeast and Simone Upton with four goals each, Lou Scotney with three goals, Thea Wilson, Claire Johnston and Abi Axon with one a piece.
Special mention goes to our fabulous goalie Kerry Russell who supported us well from her very lonely goal.
Player of the match was awarded to Lou Scotney.

against Doncaster 4’s (home).
Well it was nice to get back on the hockey pitch! After the usual discussions regarding under armour or not, thankfully guru Helen Clarke was back to let us know what to wear.
Roses started the first half a bit lethargic and playing mainly down the centre, but there were some good runs and some near misses as a goal seemed to be eluding us. Then from some good set play Claire Johnson finally got us a goal in, shortly after that Helen Clarke made that 2, again from some good work and set play, which left us 2-0 at the end of the first half.
After some encouraging words from our gallant captain (struggling with illness) and a good kick up the butt Roses started the second half with a bit more energy and better work rate, which soon produced a lovely pass from Lou through to substitute extraordinaire Rachel Nesham and she put the ball into the back of the goal, she soon followed this with another goal that came from a lovely pass.
Some good play followed, and with quick interceptions from the defence Doncaster rarely got into our D. Alex then scored the next through a great deflection, and after some ‘scuffling’ in the D not long after Helen Clarke scored her second.
A mention has to go to Lou Scotney for some great passes into the attacking D which resulted in at least 2 of the goals.
In the last few minutes of the game Roses were awarded a short corner which was not converted but resulted in a few short corners after that with one of Claire’s strong strikes glancing off the post, unfortunately we were unable to convert any of these chances and the game ended 6-0 to Roses.
Overall a good performance from the ladies, even though we beat Doncaster 9-0 last time out, but plenty to work on ready for the next game.
Final score 6-0
Player of the match went to Rachel Nesham
Next game: Saturday 25th February against Hull University 3
Roses Ladies 2nd Team Match Report
Saturday 28th Jan
Lincoln Roses II Vs Grantham
(Home)
This weekend saw the ladies 2s with a bright and early home fixture. Despite the frosty conditions and missing several key players, spirits were high. Following a late start due the opposition not having shirts with them the ladies began the game very well dominating the play.
Roses were quick to put the Grantham defence under pressure with some elegant linking play on the right between Dawn and Kirsten. Grantham conceded a penalty corner which was hit out by Cathy to Trish at the top of the D. The delivery was excellent and Trish’s well timed shot looped into the goal to take Roses 1-0 up early in the game.
Roses continued to dominate the game for much of the first half with more positive play on the right between Trish, Sally, Dawn and Kirsten. Grantham did not allow themselves to become disheartened and made some strong breaks through the middle keeping Trish and Nicky busy.
Cathy and Dom were well positioned on the left linking well with Leigh to create many scoring opportunities. Kirsten had a good run up the right wing pulling the ball back to a hungry Cathy who swept the ball into the back of the goal.
Towards the end of the first half Roses won another short corner. Once again the ball was hit out by Cathy, Trish then returned it for Cathy to take her second goal of the match.
Rosey settled in well at left back making some crucial clearances out to Dom holding off the Grantham attackers.
Half Time Score: Roses 3 – Grantham 0
Grantham came back strong in the second half and saw much more of the play. With Roses still dominating Abi worked hard to keep the ball in our attacking half of the pitch. Grantham began to push more through the middle and right keeping Rosey busy. She was well supported by Nicky, Trish and Sally and Roses were on the attack again. Linking well with Dawn, Kirsten won Roses a long corner which was well worked resulting in Kirsten’s goal from the right.
Emily settled in to her unfamiliar position up front and was unlucky to have her goal disallowed
Captain Nicky went off towards the end of the second half unsettling the defence. Grantham were able to take advantage finding a gap for a solo run from their strong midfield player. The ball was struck from the edge of the D and the angle was too tight for Yvette to save.
Final Score: Roses 4 – Grantham 1
Player of the Match went to Trish Halmshaw.
